"The government will not allow anybody to indulge in profiteering under the cover of GST."
Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has said that the price of chicken has dropped to Rs 87 per kg from Rs 103 per kg with the arrival of GST.
Speaking in a press conference, Isaac said that the government will register case against those who sell items on prices more than the MRP.
"Presently, the tax for chicken which is being sold for Rs 103, is 14 per cent. With the withdrawal of this tax, the price of chicken has dropped to Rs 87.
"The government will not allow anybody to indulge in profiteering under the cover of GST. The citizens should stand united and intervene if they see items being sold for high prices," Isaac said.
Responding to the development, All Kerala Poultry Federation (AKPF) president said that the production cost of chicken will come to Rs 85 and hence the present price is not acceptable.
