Generally we go to market where we see shops as structured buildings. Bu in Jammu and Kashmir scene is different. People residing near Dal Lake are familiar with floating market.

The floating market lasts for two hours, soon after which everyone disappears back to their village as if the market never existed. Most of the produce sold here is grown in floating gardens of the lake, and people can easily explore the wide variety on offer in a "shikara," a type of wooden boat. The rich ecosystem of this wetland produces plenty of tomatoes, cucumbers, water chestnuts and of course, the famous “nadru” — lotus roots, a delicacy in the Kashmir Valley.
