Pune: While summer vacation is still on, Puneites have already started making weekend tour bookings at monsoon destinations around Pune, as well as outside the State.
While bookings at Bhandardara and Malshej for weekends are already booked till August 15, traditional monsoon hotspots, too, continue to be in demand.
Speaking with Sakal Times, Vaishali Chavan, Regional Manager of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Pune, said, "Though rains are still away, people in the city have already started planning and booking for their weekend holidays at their favourite monsoon getaways around the city. Bhandardara and Malshej have received a huge response from the public. Bookings here for the weekends till the long weekend of August 15 are already almost full. At the same time, some of the all-time favourite monsoon getaways of Puneites like Lonavla, Matheran and Mahabaleshwar continue to be booked in abundance."
Mitali Bhalerao, representative of a resort in Mulshi said, "Over the last couple of years, Mulshi has been one of the most preferred monsoon destinations near Pune. Picturesque locale, waterfalls, dams and beautiful resorts here attract a lot of people from Pune." She added that crowds that earlier went to Lonavla too have started preferring Mulshi. "There was a time when people thought Lonavla was their only getaway from Pune in the rains. Now, as many other places including Mulshi have started developing, people who dislike the kind of crowd that gathers in Lonavla have shifted to Mulshi. Mainly, it’s a family getaway spot," added Bhalerao.
Speaking of the popular destinations outside Maharashtra, a representative at Veena World Pune said Puneites prefer South India the most when it comes to short monsoon tours.
"Kerala, with its natural beauty and resorts, is the most popular. People are also planning for customised short tours at places like Mysore, Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Coorg," she said.
