TRAI gets Reliance Jio to withdraw the Summer Surprise offer

Reliance Jio is withdrawing its Summer Surprise on the advice of the telecom regulator TRAI.
Reliance Jio is withdrawing its Summer Surprise on the advice of the telecom regulator TRAI. This means the three months of free data that was being promised to users is now over, and anyone who had Jio SIM will have to pay for the service.

According to a press statement by Reliance Jio, “Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised Jio to withdraw the 3 months complimentary benefits of the Jio Summer Surprise.” Other operators had claimed Jio’s offers were predatory and would have a negative impact on their revenue. They have also argued that it was wrong of TRAI to let Jio continue with its free data service for more than three months.
In a statement, Jio said it is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice. The offer will be withdraw over the next few days. But Jio also said that “all customers who have subscribed to JIO SUMMER SURPRISE offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer.”
