The Alcatel Idol 5S is photographed with the Idol 4 showing no major deisign change except for the speaker grille.
Alcatel had launched a series of smartphones at MWC 2017, which included the U5, A3 and A5 LED. Alcatel was also expected to launch the Idol 5 and Idol 5S smartphones. The smartphones have been spotted online quite a few times giving an idea on what the specifications would be. The Alcatel Idol 5S was last spotted on benchmarking website GeekBench. An alleged live photo of the Alcatel Idol 5S sitting next to last year’s Idol 5 has now been spotted online.
Shared by popular leakster Roland Quandt, the Alcatel Idol 5S photographed is for the carrier Cricket Wireless in the US. It isn’t known yet if this variant would launch globally or not, but nevertheless it gives us an idea of what the smartphone could look like. Only the front panel of the smartphone is visible in the leaked image. Compared to the Idol 4, the Idol 5S is slightly longer, there is also no physical home button on the Idol 5S, which is the case for the Idol 4 as well. The capacitive touch buttons are visible on the display with the volume rocker and the Boom key located on the right side.
The Boom key can be used to perform certain functions. These include taking photos in burst mode by pressing and holding, shuffling photos in the gallery for a collage or short slideshow, and generating effects in existing videos. Pressing the Boom key while recording a video also turns it into a live broadcast. The Boom key also creates 3D effects for the launcher and live weather display on the home screen. The power button isn’t visible which could be due to the angle of the photo.
The Idol 5S does look quite similar to the Idol 4 with the elongated speaker grille being the noticeable design change. In terms of specifications, the Idol 5S is expected to feature a 5.2-inch full HD display. Under the hood of the smartphone, it could run a MediaTek Helio P20 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to come with 32GB of onboard storage, which will be expandable via a microSD card.
For photography, the Idol 5S is rumored to sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. On the software front, the Idol 5S is expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Some rumors suggest that the Idol 5S will come with modular functionality like the Moto Z. As for the other smartphone, the Idol 5 has been rumored to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. The smartphone is also said to be powered by a MediaTek octa-core processor.
