Norwegian Cruise Line's soon-to-debut Norwegian Joy will feature a Ferrari-themed race track on its top deck.
Add a Ferrari-themed race track to the list of over-the-top attractions on cruise ships.
Norwegian Cruise Line on Monday unveiled a new partnership with Scuderia Ferrari Watches that includes the development of a two-level, Ferrari-themed racing course atop the soon-to-debut Norwegian Joy.
The 3,850-passenger vessel also will feature a retail store next to the track that sells Scuderia Ferrari watches.
Scuderia Ferrari is the racing division of Italian carmaker Ferrari.
Located at the top of Joy, the Ferrari race track will accommodate up to 10 drivers at a time who will race each other in electric go-carts.
Nearing completion in Germany, Joy is being built exclusively for the Chinese market — a first at Norwegian. The line will take delivery of the vessel from shipbuilder Meyer Werft on April 27 and send it directly to China. It'll begin sailing year-round out of Shanghai and Tianjin, China starting this summer.
At 168,800 tons, Joy is one of the 10 largest cruise ships ever built. It's the second vessel in Norwegian's new Breakaway Plus series. The first ship in the series, Norwegian Escape, debuted in 2015 and sails year-round to the Caribbean out of Miami.
While similar in size to Escape, Joy will feature accommodations, cuisine and on-board experiences that cater specifically to the preferences of Chinese travelers, the line has said.
Norwegian is one of several major North America-based lines that are sending new ships to China as lines increasingly look to Asia for growth. Princess Cruises this year also is sending its newest ship to China, and Royal Caribbean has deployed two of its newest vessels to the country.
