After groceries and other essential items, now petroleum products might soon be delivered at your doorsteps. The Petroleum Ministry on Friday tweeted that options are being explored where petroleum products may be door delivered to consumers on pre-booking.
“The delivery of petroleum products will help consumers avoid spending excessive time and long queues at fuel stations,” read the tweet. Every day about 3.5 crore people come to fuel stations and transactions worth Rs 2500 takes place every year.
Meanwhile, From May 1, state-owned oil companies will change prices of fuel every day in five cities. To start with, the cities in which change in prices will be first implemented are Chandigarh in the north India, Puducherry and Vizag in south, Jamshedpur in the East and Udaipur in the West.
India comes at third position among the biggest oil consumer countries in the world. Out of 58,000 petrol pumps in India, 95% are owned by the state- controlled oil companies: Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL). Among various oil and gas commodities, it is only LPG which is delivered at home right now.
Highlighting the efforts made by oil ministry to increase cashless transactions, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in a meeting on ‘Digital Modes of Payment – Promotion of cashless transactions’ stated that “over 35,000 consumer awareness campaigns organized in country, OMCs giving 0.75% discount on fuel purchase via cashless mode”.
Daily cashless transactions have increased from Rs 150 crore per day to Rs 400 crore every day, said Pradhan.
