Spicy Tapioca Biriyani



When it comes to Kerala cuisine, spices are a must. Let's try a traditional Kerala style tapioca biriyani, which is a spicy, yummy dish popular among keralites.
Ingredients
Tapioca: 500 gm
Beef (bone-in meat): 500 gm
Shallot: 6 Nos
Garam Masala: 1/2 Tspn
Chilli Powder: 1 Tspn
Ginger (crushed): 1 Tspn
Green Chilli (crushed): 1 Tspn
Black Pepper powder: 1 Tspn
Turmeric Powder: 1/2 Tspn
Onion: 1 Nos
Coriander Powder: 1/2 Tspn
Garlic (crushed): 1/2 Tspn
Mustard: 1/2 Tspn
Dried red chilli: 3 Nos
Salt, Curry leaves and oil: As required
Preparation:
The preparation of tapioca biriyani involves three steps. First we have to cook tapioca. After cleaning the tapioca, cook it by adding water, turmeric powder, salt and curry leaves. Drain off the water completely. Mash tapioca a bit and keep it in a bowl.
In the second step, take a pan, heat it up and add oil. Wait for the oil to get heated. Then add half of chopped onion and saute it until the onion turns golden brown. After that add half of chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, smashed ginger, green chilli and garlic, chopped shallots and black pepper powder. When the aroma of the spices comes out, add beef pieces into it. Cook the meat in low flame. Keep sauteing until it is done. If required, add water.
Finally, take another pan and heat it up. Add oil and splutter mustard seeds, dried chilli and curry leaves. Then add the remaining onion, ginger, garlic, pepper powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and chopped shallot. Saute it well. Then add cooked beef and tapioca, mix them well. Cover the pan with a lid and allow it cook for a few minutes under low flame. Tasty, spicy tapioca biriyani is ready to serve.
