This most loved summer destination - the paradise valley in Kashmir is bursting forth with varied blooms and is even more beautiful this year. Owing to climate change, flowering plants and trees are blossoming early this year.
Summer is still few months away, but tourists are already rushing to the place to beat the heat and celebrate the tulip festival. To their delight, Asia's largest tulip garden in Kashmir opened for visitors on Saturday. With the onset of rising temperature and early bloom, the garden opened ahead of schedule this year.
Situated in the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountains on the banks of the Dal Lake, the vast expanse of tulip garden in riots of colours is one of the major tourist attractions in Kashmir Valley.
India's own Holland, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar first opened in 2007 and is spread over 75 acres of land. This year, 1.5 million bulbs of the flower were sown this year, according to government sources, and for the first time, 48 varieties of tulips are in bloom in the garden, the state tourist department said.
The tulip festival, starting April 1 is a part of the Bahaar-e-Kashmir (spring in Kashmir). It will be celebrated for 15 days.
