You might have read several articles on the habits you need to adopt in order to get one step closer to becoming a successful version of yourself. But what about some of the habits that you practise on a daily basis which are preventing you from reaching prosperity? Whether it is eating a wholesome breakfast every morning or dragging yourself to the gym, there are several patterns we pledge to adopt at the start of each new year. This year, examine the negative habits that are holding you back and work towards getting rid of them.
Watching TV before bed
A lot of people believe that watching TV shows before going to bed relaxes them. Actually, it has just the opposite effect. It tires people and makes them fall asleep late at night between two episodes instead of falling asleep immediately. If your sleep is cut short, you won’t wake up fresh the next morning, which will bring down your productivity levels drastically.
Trying to be stay focused 24*7
It is impossible to stay productive all day. Some individuals work better in the mornings, while others are night owls. It is important to make your to-do list in a way that you schedule all the important tasks in the period when you’re most focused. If you try to over-exert yourself, your attempt to be successful will fall flat on its face.
Spending large amounts of time on social media
You start by scrolling through your Facebook feed with the intention of seeing what your friends are up to. However, you get so engrossed into other people’s lives that you completely lose track of time. If this has happened to you before, then you’re surely no stranger to this phenomenon. Spending large amounts of time on social media sites will not only eat into your professional time but will also make you tired and less productive from continuously staring at the screen.
Seeking continued perfection
It is alright to want to complete the task at hand diligently, but if you’re always striving for perfection, you start over-analysing every little detail which will ultimately cause you a lot of stress. Being detail-oriented is a good thing, but scrutinising every small action will result in a whole lot of unfinished work, and this will bring down your morale and productivity levels before you know it.
Not eating meals
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And if you’re a working individual, so is lunch. Your mind and body needs fuel to function and stay active all day. If you skip important meals, you end up feeling exhausted and you succumb to other equally unhealthy habits. Carry a packed lunch with you and some snacks for the evening if you’re used to working late hours. Eat wholesome meals and see your productivity skyrocket like never before.
