Highest selling smartphones of the year.

The title of highest-selling smartphone of the year 2016 goes to Apple iPhone 6S. Launched in September 2015, the smartphone is currently available at around Rs 38,000 on e-commerce websites.

iPhone 6S runs on Apple's A9 processor, which is claimed to be 70% faster than the company's previous-generation A8 chipset. The smartphone comes with 3D Touch, 2GB RAM and 12-megapixel iSight rear camera, capable of shooting 4K videos. The front FaceTime camera is 5-megapixels.
The second-most selling smartphone of the year, according to IHS data, is Apple's current flagship --iPhone 7. The smartphone launched in India in October last year and is currently priced at Rs 50,000 onwards (approximately). In terms of specifications, iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch display with 3D touch Retina HD display and is powered by the new quad-core Apple A10 Fusion processor, which the company claims is 40% faster that Apple A9.

At the third position on IHS' ranking is the bigger-screen variant of the current flagship iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus. Available at around Rs 60,000, Apple iPhone 7 Plus comes with a bigger 5.5-inch display, runs on the same A10 Fusion processor and has same 2GB RAM. While the cameras in both the smartphones have got a major upgrade, iPhone 7 Plus camera is more powerful. iPhone 7 Plus has a two 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. The front camera on both the smartphones is 7-megapixel.

World's fourth-most shipped smartphone is iPhone 6 Plus, the bigger-screen variant of iPhone 6S. Apple iPhone 6S Plus is available around Rs 44,000 approximately. The smartphone has largely the same specifications as iPhone 6S except for minor variations on camera and battery front. iPhone 6S Plus comes with a higher 2,750mAh non-removable battery vs iPhone 6S' 1,715mAh battery.

Samsung makes its entry in the list at No. 5 with its last year's flagship, Galaxy S7 edge. Launched in March 2016, the smartphone is currently available at around Rs 44,000.
Galaxy S7 edge sports a 5.5-inch display, has 3,600mAh battery and weighs 157 grams. The high-end smartphone has a Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixel. The smartphone runs on Exynos 8890 64-bit octa-core processor with 4GB RAM, 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS, 5MP selfie camera, 4G support and fast charging, along with all regular connectivity options.
At No. 6 is Samsung's budget smartphone Galaxy J3 (2016) that was launched in March last year at Rs 8,990. The smartphone offers a new feature called S bike mode which claims to change the way users ride. The new 'S bike mode' feature mutes the phone and automatically sends a text to the caller.
On the specifications front, Galaxy J3 (2016) flaunts a 5-inch HD display with 1,280x720 pixels resolution. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clubbed with 1.5GB of RAM. It offers 8GB of in-built storage, which can be expanded further up to 128GB using a microSD card.
The only smartphone in the list from a company other than Apple and Samsung is Oppo. The mid-range Oppo A53 launched in December 2015 and is currently available around Rs 19,000.
Oppo A53 runs on the company's own ColorOS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 out-of-the-box. The dual-sim smartphone sports a 5.5-inch HD display with 2.5D curved glass on front and a pixel density of 267ppi. The smartphone measures 153.90x77x7.4mm and weighs 165gm. Inside, it packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB RAM and 3,075mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) ranks at No. 8 on IHS' ranking. Galaxy J5 (2016) has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with HD (720x1280p) resolution. It packs the 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor under the hood, with 2GB RAM. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and microUSB 2.0, while battery capacity is rated at 3,100mAh.
The mid-range smartphone is currently available at around Rs 10,000 in India.
